Updated painting (see first draft below).  Fence was removed to reduce foreground distraction and provide a more varied composition upon entering the path.  Flowers and additional details added.  Color contrasts emphasized between the bright sunlit areas and the cool, shady spaces.

Floral Path (First Draft)

Work in progress - Path & Haze Field, Hidden Lake Gardens, Tipton, MI.

"First Draft" of path and field from Hidden Lake Gardens, in Tipton , Michigan. Hazy mid-June morning. Basic values and color schemes demonstrated in this version.  Additional details to be added will include flowers along the path and adding more depth to the grasses. Color harmony includes bringing purples, pinks, orange and mauves from the distance into the foreground and balancing with complementary colors (dark blues and purples). Enhanced sunlight will be brought out by darkening shaded areas.  Possible additions to the painting include a person or couple strolling on the path, another small tree or shrubs to break up the grasses. Fence on left will be more obscured by the overgrown weeds. Sky is light yellow/orange hazy, early morning look; distant trees identified as light blue haze (it was a humid morning).

"Sundance:"
Landscape Study for 212 Art Center Class, Winter 2007:

See "Sundance" below and note the comments within the painting.  The subject offered the opportunity to show several planes of landscape (foreground, hills, treelines) and the use of complementary colors. Notice how sharper images and bolder colors are toward the foreground, and softer edges and muted colors in the background.
