Working a pastel painting entails building up layers of pigment with refinements that add depth and atmospheric effects. Note the upper right where fog impacts have been added to the tree line, grasses and left portion of the barn.
The blue of the fog was also highlighted in the lower right grassy areas, the path and the left corner of the painting.
Note the value-shift in the green grass field: the right potion was darkened as it now more fully sits in shade, helping to highlight the sunny area near the center of the painting.
Flowers were added in various areas, as well as further definition of the edges of grassy areas. Spend some time comparing this version of the painting with earlier versions.
