Here we begin to block in the distant hills. Since the web of trees will become a focal point of the painting, we want to complete the background as best possible. Later on we may vary the "light holes" within the trees that will generate subtle changes in the background.
A bit more detail will be aded to the distant hills, but not too much given their distance and our desire not to place too much emphasis on the plane of the painting.
