At this stage of the painting, I am beginning to fill-in portions of the composition. Additional values are added in the shadier spots (mostly under the foreground trees). Higher values are added to build depth in the foliage and add to accents of leaves scattered across the painting and catching the early morning light.
There is not a whole lot of differentiation in the landscape from side-to-side. This enables the artist to select a limited pallete of value and color and apply the pastel to continue defining the landscape.
