Ten Minute Painting

Plein air artists need the discipline to capture a scene quickly before sunlight and weather conditions change. One way to train for such a work environment is to complete a landscape study is a short amount of time.

I set my timer to ten minutes and, with a reference photo at hand, completed this study. The cool thing about it was the simple bold strokes to capture the essence of the scene, and the opportunity to add more detail and finish this tiny 4x6 painting.

Here's the reference photo. Gotta love those bold pastel colors!!
