It feels like Christmas in July as I wrap up this painting!
Hiking near Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan this past late November, we came across a snowy clearing in the forest. This painting was inspired by that enjoyable afternoon hike.

"Clearing" is an oil painting on stretched canvas, 18x24 inches. After completing so many pastel paintings and enjoying how one can "layer" colors and details upon previous layers of pigment, I found a similar joy in doing the same with oils. With oils, of course, the layer needs to dry to accept a new layer, so a day usually goes by before some further touching up is done.
