I came across this scene at the County Farms Park in Ann Arbor, around 7:30 am. I was attracted to the blues and the hazy morning vista. Here's the reference photo:
When planning the pastel painting, I needed to figure out what to do with all of that green! So I broke out my artist's license and decided to bring more color into the scene. I also simplified it, reducing the variety of masses and vegetative clutter in the landscape:
