Put on your hiking shoes and head over to Hocking Hills State Park, in Logan, Ohio. A truly unique landscape that seems way out of place, only one hour south of Columbus, Ohio.
My second visit to Hocking Hills this past October, reinforced the beauty I desired to convey in my landscape painting. Here are three of my most recent oil paintings.
Ash Cave is a spectacular feature of Hocking Hills State Park. The cave was a shelter for Native Americans thousands of years ago. Settlers discovered a thick carpet of ashes and artifacts at this site.

The Grandma Gatewood Trail to Old Man's Cave. When you start on this trail, you will cross this stone bridge and head down to this pond and the base of a waterfall. Depending on what time of the year you visit, you will see either a torrent of water cascading down the rocks, or a trickle (or something in between).

Miles of trails, including the Grandma Gatewood Trail and the Buckeye Trail, traverse through Hocking Hills. This particular scene below is typical of what you will see during an autumn hike.

I look forward to visiting Hocking Hills this Winter. The park offers a Winter Hike, to be scheduled, typically sometime in mid-January. I can't wait to paint those winter scenes of Hocking Hills State Park!
